Claire Danes at the Met Ball— that is, the opening of the Costume Institute exhibit (Model as Muse this year), and what Style.com calls ‘The Party of the Year.’ This dress was one of my favorites because its boldness is in its simplicity. I love how the bodice is twisted to fit so perfectly, and how it looks like the fabric is made of tiny vertical lines. It gives the top half of the dress a lovely kind of sinuous elegance almost like a character of Chinese calligraphy, which contrasts with the more rigid geometry of the skirt (made of thousands of tiny squares). I also like that she went with simple hair and makeup and little jewelry, and that she wore a pale color and pulled it off even though her skin and hair are also pale. As a fellow alabaster girl (though not blonde), I will have to remember that one.
